Proposals for construction of a second container terminal, to be built on the River Mersey and capable of accommodating the new generation of giant Post Panamax container ships, will give the Port of Liverpool the potential to double annual capacity to 1.5 million teus.

Meanwhile, the performance of the established Royal Seaforth Container Terminal has been enhanced by the introduction of a sixth ship-to-shore gantry crane serving four deepsea berths.
