Liverpool is the major port for trade between Britain and Ireland, handling over 40% of all freight - plus more than half a million passengers a year - crossing the Irish Sea.

The Port provides strategic economic and environmental benefits to Irish Sea freight by enabling trucks to take the shortest overland route and their drivers to fulfil tachograph rest periods during the sea crossing between Liverpool and Ireland.

A combined total of eight roll-on roll-off freight and passenger services are operated each day from Liverpool to Dublin and Belfast by Norfolk Line, Seatruck and P&O Ferries. In addition, Coastal Container Line operates a daily door-to-door container service to Dublin and an alternate daily service to Belfast, making Liverpool unique in offering both ro-ro and container lift-on lift-off services on the Irish Sea.
